Wu Yuanzhong 吳遠中, born in 1970 in Taichung, Taiwan, began studying pottery at the Shui Li Snake Kiln in Taiwan in 1989. He is recognized as one of Taiwan's prominent figures in contemporary ceramic art. Inspired by the spirit of Shennong, Wu is dedicated to sourcing natural minerals and ash materials from the natural world to create unique clay and glaze combinations, drawing from a vast range of influences.

In 2000, he founded the Weiming Kiln Studio in Yingge Township, Taiwan, later relocating it to Guilin, Guangxi, in 2012, and eventually to Jingdezhen in 2021. With over 30 years of professional ceramic-making experience, Wu has spent his career exploring the utmost possibilities in ceramic firing with the meticulous approach of a scientist, pushing the boundaries of ceramic expression. He skillfully innovates through subtle variations in glazes, clay bodies, and kiln techniques, continually advancing the field of ceramic art.

Beyond the classical aesthetics of Ru, Ding, Guan, and Jun wares, Wu has developed unique creations such as Black Soil Ru, Cold Fragrance White, Peacock Blue, Rhino Hide Drunken Glaze, Ding Jun, Snowy Clear Days, and Bamboo Ash Glaze. His work combines refined, intellectual forms with expressive surfaces, embodying a deep connection to the cosmos, life, and history—a tribute to the resilience and continuity of ancient artisans. His creations evoke a serene and solitary appreciation of landscapes even while celebrating vibrant modern aesthetics.

In 2017, Wu was invited to hold a solo exhibition, *Flaming Hues: The World of Wu Yuanzhong’s Glazes*, at the Poly Art Museum in Beijing, an acknowledgment from one of the top-tier art institutions for his remarkable achievements in glaze exploration. The intricate and extensive variety of his glaze styles cannot be fully conveyed through text alone, nor can the brilliance of his glaze colors be adequately captured in images.
